15.3% of Brazil’s population have their own business

A report released this week by Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) survey, which covers 54 countries,says that 15.3% of the Brazilian population have their own business and that most of the entrepreneurs of the country are women – 53%. The data shows that amongst the G-20 countries - the 20 most strong economies of the world – Brazil ranks second in terms of number of entrepreneurs, after China. The survey concerns 2009 and shows significant increase in the number of Brazilians who become entrepreneurs out of opportunity (9.4%) in comparison with those who start their own business out of necessity (5.9%). Brazil has about 200 million inhabitants and is the 8º world economy. According to a study by Goldman Sacks, by 2050 the country will be the fourth largest economy.
